Your Android phone is made (at least by default) to fast turn off the screen in order to preserve battery life and extend the amount of time the phone may go without being charged. However, there is nothing stopping you if you wish the screen to remain on for longer. The Android OS allows you to leave the screen on unattended for up to 30 minutes. There are a few ways to keep your Android phone’s screen on for an extended period of time.
How To Keep Your Android Screen On For Longer
By default, your phone is set to keep the screen on for a very short time — dependent on the model, it might default to a minute or two. But you can extend that timeout up to 30 minutes.
- Start the Settings app.
- Tap Display.
- Tap Screen timeout.
- Choose the time that the screen will stay on. You can select up to 30 minutes.
- Tap the Back button at the top of the screen.

How To Keep Your Android Screen Always On Using An App
Installing a third-party app will make your phone stay on for as long as you like if you want it to stay on for more than 30 minutes. There are many programs that can do this, but Screen Alive is a trustworthy and cost-free option.
You must provide Screen Alive permission to modify your phone’s system settings after installing the app. Then, on the Home tab, you can select Always to keep the screen on until you manually switch it off or press the other option to enter a time range, up to 24 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds, for how long you want the phone to stay on.
Note that if you use an app like this, you will run your phone’s battery down very quickly.

How To Keep Your Android’s Lock Screen Always On
There is only one alternative choice available to you. You might be able to turn on your phone’s always-on lock screen if you only need to see the time and weather and don’t want to have the main screen of the device on all the time. Although not all Android models do, you can check to see if yours does. Even if it reduces the battery life of your phone, you might decide that it’s a worthwhile trade-off.
- Start the Settings app.
- Tap Display.
- Tap Lock screen.
- Turn on Always show time and info by swiping the button to the right.
