Facebook is an American multinational technology. It is indeed a typical social network but whenever you log back into your Facebook account, you might not feel like socializing every time. This can be because you don’t have enough energy or the time to talk with your friends. Whatever the reason, there is an option available to use Facebook without letting anyone know you’re active on it.
Fortunately, this can happen by turning off your “Active Status”. This can easily be within the app or on the Facebook website. Facebook Messenger has this same global setting too. It allows you to check your new messages without your friends knowing about you being active. This is how it can be done:
Disable Active Status on Facebook Website:
- In a browser, log in to Facebook and then click the Messenger icon in the top-right corner of the page.
- Click the ellipsis (three dots) icon at the top of the chat window.
- Click Active Status.
- Toggle off the switch next to Active Status: ON to disable it.

Remember that the Active Status window includes a couple of additional options. They allow you to show up as active for some friends, but not for the unchosen ones and vice versa. Just tap the edit button to select the friends you want to add to either list.
Disable Active Status in Facebook App:
- Launch the Facebook app and tap the menu tab (three lines) in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy to expand this section.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll down, and under “Audience and visibility,” tap Active Status.
- Toggle off the switch next to Show when you’re active.
Disable Active Status in Facebook Messenger:
- Launch the Facebook Messenger app and tap your circular profile picture in the top-left corner of the screen.
- Tap Active Status.
- Toggle off the switch next to Show when you’re active.
Remember that upon turning off your Active Status in Facebook or Facebook Messenger, you will not see when your friends and connections are active or recently active either.
