Apple has added an extra degree of customization to Live Activities with the introduction of iOS 16.2, as well as the option for more frequent updates. Continue reading to find out how it works.

Live Activities, which were introduced in iOS 16, are persistent interactive alerts that keep you up to date, allowing you to keep an eye on what’s going on in real-time directly from the Lock Screen. If you’re watching a sporting event, you can see the updated score on the Lock Screen, or if you’re waiting for an Uber, you can watch for your driver to approach.
Live Activities are also integrated with Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. During a Premier League Match, for example, Dynamic Island displays a live-updating scoreboard on either side of the True Depth camera pill with the number of goals scored by each club. When pushed repeatedly, the Dynamic Island extends to indicate the time remaining and play-by-play action.
With the release of iOS 16.2, Apple provided the ability to allow Live Activities to update more regularly, albeit this setting can deplete an iPhone’s battery faster.
Despite the higher power use, the choice is likely to be welcomed by users who rely on apps that employ Live Activities to provide up-to-date information about travel and transport times, for example. Here’s how to enable it on an app-by-app basis.
Check that you have enabled Live Activities on your iPhone before proceeding with the procedure below. Also, ensure that your iPhone is running iOS 16.2. Go to Settings -> General -> Software Update to see if your device is up to date.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Select an app that includes support for Live Activities. Here, we’re selecting the TV app.
- Tap Live Activities, and make sure the Live Activities toggle is turned on for the app.
- Toggle on the switch next to More Frequent Updates.

If you don’t see the More Frequent Updates option, it’s possible that the app you’re trying to enable hasn’t yet been updated to support the feature, in which case you should check with the developer to see when they expect to integrate it.
